Easter Designs are here & a little update from our creative studio
It's been way to quiet here on the blog. The past year we've been in this very bad relationship with social media consuming all our time! But it's time to get back to what we love most and that's reating print designs! And of course we still want to have a platform to showcase what we're doing. Our blog space seems to be a good spot for that. Without adds and spamming followers without consent. This feels like a safer space to put our work out there.
Last month we launched 4 new collections and if you're signed up to our newsletter you probably have viewed them already. We created new valentine designs, St. Patrick's Day patterns and we created a great amount of new print designs for Easter & Springtime. And, 4th of July! if you also want to stay in the loop and view new designs: Sign up to our newsletter!
Hopefully in 2024 we can revamp this page and get more consistent posting what's going on behind the scenes and what's been leaving our creative studio! We have so many beautiful projects to share. Logo designs, new dog accessory collabs. We've been working with some new fabric supplyers, so next to Spoonflower you can also find our designs at Tiska & Carriage house. A lot to share so stay tuned!
Licensing print designs
If you would like to license our prints for your business too please send us a message. Reach out if you need something custom for your brand. We license print designs all over the world, and we love to welcome new collabs.

New work: Launching the new Meyadey brand Spring/Summer Collection
For months and months and some more months we’ve been waiting not so patiently to show you what we’ve been working on with the Maxomorra people. This week Meyadey was welcomed to the world. The new sustainable kids fashion sister brand from Maxomorra will contain only Little Smilemakers Studio prints.
We’ve create some print designs for Maxomorra in the past, but the Maxomorra style is something that outgrew us. Their customers were used to a certain style and there was little room for experimenting with new styles and trend. It was time for his very own sister brand. For this very first Spring/Summer launch we’ve create 12 designs. For boys, girls and each drop also has a gender neutral. The designs are not specific to the season because we wanted to create durable pieces that could be worn all year long. All pieces are made from the same certified cotton and high quality eco friendly inks like you’re used to from Maxomorra.
We’ll be posting some more news and images soon once they’ll be launched. So stay tuned and follow Meyadey on Insta to stay in the loop. Curious to see what we’re making for their next collections? You can follow us behind the scenes @littlesmilemakersstudio. And while we’re enjoying this launch we are working on the new collection that is planned a year from now. Meyadey is keeping us busy!

Top 5 trend colors for the autumn season // Shop our new autumn collection

We've been waiting for the leaves to turn color. And Autumn is finally here. We're loving the palette: muted to bright oranges, shades of brown: cinnamon, rust, ginger. All mixed with soft earthy tones and dark forest greens and navy blues. And we couldn't be more excited to show you this autumn collection overview.
Fall is definitely my personal fave season. I was born in October, so I guess the love for the moody season runs in my blood. I get our and take walks as much as possible before the weather is getting too crazy cold to hang out in the woods. I love seeing the leaves change every time I visit. But fall is also the moment to stay in, cuddle up inside with a cozy blanket. And there's no better season to start some new projects, making clothes, change home-decor, than Autumn season. Change your pillow-cases, add some fresh new prints to the mix. As I am writing this I have to admit: I've been doing some serious Kon Marie-ing today too. My home is ready for some new textiles!
We've created some really adorable woodland animals and turned them into print designs. We also made new Halloween prints and of course we created new animal prints: leopards, cheetahs and panther spots are all in there. And to top it off: some matching abstracts and minimals. We are loving this year's palette. The new Autumn palette was based on 5 new trend colors. These are this years Autumn trend colors.
1 Cinnamon:
We love this soft yellow shade with a hint of brown. It's a perfect gender-neutral to add to your little one's nursery. A great warm base color for your kids room and basic pieces. It's a great neutral that goes with everything. So if you're making some durable pieces, or if you don't want to limit your creations to the season, this is a great pick.
2 Navy:
This dark blue shade creates a beautiful contrast with the warm earthy tones. A strong color perfect for kids nightwear, leggings and baby rompers. This color is great for your babies wardrobe because stains are hard to spot! And it's an easy mix and match color.
3 Rust:
We're not affraid of decay! Last years copper is making room for rust. This stone red/brown color is great for gender neutral pieces. We love how so many tones can be traced back to nature this year. Add some soft pink or cool blue to freshen it with a pop of color. Or go all autumn and add some ochre, ginger or cinnamon to the mix.
4 Forest Green:
Okay, I have to admit every shade of green is a go this year. Emerald, jade, mint. But we picked forest green for our new Autumn palette this year. Because it's looking so damn cute with all the other colors. And we'd love to add some extra green to the cooler season right? We're not saying goodbye just because nature is! Let's be stubborn!
5 Ginger
More of a soft tone and pastels kind peep? Try our ginger prints. Soften things up with this pastel tone. A little more yellow than last years sandy tones. I use ginger in my kitchen every day, how did we never add this shade to our shop before now? Well, we finally did, and looooove seeing how these colors are used by our customers.
The designs shown here are available for licensing. You can license our designs if you'd like to use our prints for your products by sending us an email and send along a screenshot of the designs you'd like to license. All these designs featured here are also available on fabric & wallpaper in our Spoonflower shop. If you need any hand finding the right shade or scale, of need another color version or size for your project? Just send us a message. We're happy to add new versions for you.

One of our most fave collabs this year was with Paige, who’s the creator of Poppy and Ted dog accessories. We wanted to show you two of the panther print creations; the cameo harness and the pink cotton print she has available on collars, leashes and harnesses. Which one is your fave? Check her shop for more prints & styles and all other panther palettes.

Made with Little Smilemakers Studio Fabric // Top 5 February 2018

It is so exciting to see a finished project after working hard on a new collection or a series of illustrations for our clients. But with finished fabric designs it is even a bigger surprise to see what customers create. To see how final products evolve when people put their own creative energy in there is amazing.

We love how Little Smilemakers creations are the foundation for other creatives all around the world to work with. So here is our monthly blog post that features some creative results from Mexico, India, USA and The Netherlands. This month we selected a whole bunch of hot selling fabrics, turned into beautiful items. We have some cool kiwi bird backpacks, FU prints and fun woodland bears. Take a look and see if there is something for your little one too. This is our February top 5.
1 // Zippy Jamz
This US company changes how babies and parents experience their new lives together through high-quality, simple and intuitive products. ZippyJamz’ patent-pending design combines two zippers in a single garment. The first, along the front makes dressing easy; the second, along the inseam, makes diaper changing super convenient. Your baby stays warm during the changing and keeps them in a state of sleep making the nights a little less challenging.

3 // Dollhouse Bandits
We love clever small businesses and this on one of them most definitely. The Dutch based business Tiny Little Cactus creates the most adorable nursery items and has now launched a new range of doll house furniture, bedding, characters and decoration. We love seeing these adorable items pop up in our feed and it makes me all nostalgic. We started working for Daily Objects right after our second trip to India. I was all awe about the country and said yes to this collab immediately, which is not something I usually do. There is some research and proper conversation before the ‘yes’ usually. But working together has not been disappointing. Four years ago the company made phone accessories and I started selling Little Smilemakers designs on cases and laptop covers. Now they expanded their range with office supplies, notebooks and home decoration and we love seeing our new prints added to their collection. Take a look and see if there is something you like!

Top 5 fabric trends // winter 16/17 // watch out for these cool themes and styles this winter

Every season we reveal our best selling designs and make a fun top 5 of current trends. In this part of the world we are preparing for the colder season and all winter themes are picked up. But down under things are getting warmer, so we always have to contrasting geographical areas fighting for the hot sellers title. So much fun to see those two world join in our shop sales. Here is our Top 5 in fabric trends for this year’s winter season. All fabrics are listed below.
Monochromes & Textures
More and more people begin to realize we need a serene and peaceful place to call home after being overly exposed to so many things each and every day this seems to be a ultimate lifestyle change all around the world. As a designer the prints I love most are the basic, plain, pure shapes. We have been making fabric and print designs for over 8 years now and we have seen the shift from crazy colorful-all-colors-of-the-rainbow-in-one to the pure Scandinavian inspired texture like designs. And we love it. In this time and age our fabric buyers are more conscious and fabric should fit into a multi purpose: gender neutral, age neutral, cross seasonal etc. We love this strong trend since we love working with a clean simple shape and turn it into a strong repeat for fashion and home decoration. Especially the monochromes have been very popular this season. In strong black and white, less saturated natural colors and soft pastels.
Kawaii faces
When we visit japan almost two years ago we were inspired to make a new series of Kawaii style designs. We all know Hello Kitty right? Kawaii means something adorable or cute in Japanese and while I was traveling through this amazing one-of-a-kind quirky country I notice nearly everything ‘graphic design’ related, business logo’s, packaging, public adds, infographics: everything was Kawaii. Cute tiny eyes and a smiley face. So we are so happy to see these eyelashes, tiny faces and smiles pop up in home decoration in this part of the world. Our most popular Kawaii inspired print must be our popsicles and ice-cream design. But we also created some winter themes for this colder season. We mixed it up with a little Scandinavian: less colors. Hopefully we can enjoy those smiley faces for another few years.

Bears & Sloths
We looooove all the typical fall and winter animals. Animals will always be one of the most hot-selling themes and every year there is another animal standing out and trending like no other. This winter it has been the grizzly & polar bear. Bears are popping up everywhere and unfortunately a lot of copies are also going around also. But we have a cool, very unique selection in our shop. When we are preparing for snow, down under they are sewing their new summer pieces. This summer we saw our Sloths picked up all around the world. Now 8 months after releasing the Pura Vida series in our exclusive design presentation every single print artist has their own sloth available. So the sloths probably won’t be here next year but we wanted to celebrate them a little anyway. Next to elephants my personal fav-of-all-time animal. How can you NOT love those quirky creatures?

Gender Neutral Kids Themes
The past few years there has been a worldwide discussion about gender. This topic made it a little difficult to sell my pink designs as ‘girls print’ and blue designs as ‘boy print. Sometimes we get the most nasty comments on designs in blue or pink. The thing is: if someone is looking for ‘baby boy fabric’ you kinda need to tag designs in a way everyone can find what they need. It does not mean we think blue should only fit boys. As a Dutch designer I can tell you I am quite happy about the gender discussion and when people get better informed they also make better choices so that is why we see an increase in sales in kids designs that are gender neutral. It is getting more and more important to NOT label and we are so happy to see how strongly this effects our sales. That is why we wanted to add it to our top 5 trends this winter. Buying gender neutral is not only a gender conscious decision, it also reduces the footprint for our kids fashion industry and home decoration companies. Why release two lines when you can cover all at once? I love it! We plan on making more and more neutral prints ourselves but keep adding a boy and girl tag every now and then.
Dreams
All night and sky related designs are crazy popular this year. It is so funny to see how all dream themes and sky related prints are trending. Our hot air balloon designs were all sold with an exclusive license this year, we did not manage to add new designs to our fabric shop but our oldies, clouds, moon & stars, they are all picked up and are popping up in small boutiques all around the world. So funny how quick a trend can set! We thought this dream topic was a good one to end this post with. If you are looking for some fresh themes go visit our Spoonflower shop and show us what you make!

So here is our monthly blog post that features some creative results from Hawaii, Germany, The Netherlands, Poland and of course America. This month we selected a whole bunch of fun summer fabrics turned into the most gorgeous items. Kids fashion, nursery accessories and home and interior decoration. We have selected a cool summer romper, some origami fabric, triangles fashion and our fav must be some tiny pineapple shorts. Take a look and see if there is something for your little one too. This is our August top 5.
Hekili Designs // Pineapple Pom Pom shorts
Nicole runs a small Etsy business from beautiful Hawaii where she sells pieces of jewelry, kids clothes and home textiles. We saw Baby Blue Skyler pop up in our Instagram feed rocking one of her awesome black and white pineapple shorts we totally love. The shape, the color combo and those cute little pom poms, I wish I had a little girl! Unfortunately I don’t, and they are not available in my own size just yet, so I hope you can make your little one happy with a cute pair of Pineapple shorts. Check out her entire collection over at Etsy.
Ansje handmade // Rattles & Kids fashion
Every few weeks we get another sample batch from Spoonflower to check quality, scale sizes and colors. We work together with Anouck and we let her create small baby shower gifts from our little pieces of cotton fabric. She has made some very cute rattles this summer but she focuses on baby, toddler and kids clothes that are all handmade from her home and available in her online shop. Ansje handmade is a small Dutch business that also sells fabric per meter and we are happy to tell you she also has some cute Little Smilemakers prints in stock for you and the following months she will be expanding that collection with some new colorful abstract designs and fall and winter themes. Go take a look and enjoy the collection.
Kalamati // Home interior textiles
The past years we have been working directly with this Polish company that is specialized in home decoration textiles for kids. We love how the collection is growing with every season and how they are building a fun range of products in a unique Scandinavian inspired style. Their range of kids bedding is not only suitable in your little ones bedroom, you can also use those blankets for a little picknick in the park or day at the beach. If you would like to get your hands on one of these new items. The new hot air balloons or maybe you like the latest edition: our writing feathers, then go visit the Kalamati webshop and check out all their beautiful items.

Apfelschick // New Triangle fabric
We have licensed some fabric designs to this small online webshop in the past year. This German company run by Dana, mommy of three, sells fabric per meter and doesn’t really turn these into kids clothes herself but when we saw this amazing photoshoot with this cute little boy showing off his new triangle hoodie we just had to share it with you guys and give them a little Shout Out. Our new triangles are now available in her shop so if you’d like to start being creative and make some fun fashion for yourself get your hands on a piece o this wonderful fabric before she runs out. Visit the shop! Hoodie made by Zuckerwolkenfabrik.
Shop Cranky Peach // Ice Cream baby romper
Minky baby blankets and girls clothing is what this small Florida based shop specializes in. We adore their little rompers and we just had to select their ice cream romper for this month ‘Made with’ post. These photo’s all breathe summer don’t they? There are a lot more rompers available in her shop and we’ve also seen some cute little woodland socks that would be perfect for chilly fall days. Curious? Check out this fun colorful shop and support this small business.
