Sources of inspiration // Living at Sea

My home is located only a 10 minute bike ride from the beach. During the warmer season I love cycling through the dunes and stare at the sunset. It is such an amazing way to finish the day. Get some fresh air and clear my mind. During these warm days I notice my creations get influenced by the re-found calm. My designs get a little more minimal, soft and clear. I love this time of the year and I would love to live in a climate where visiting the beach on flip flops would be a possibility all year long. But for now I will just soak up the sun and try to store some energy for the colder season.

I love living close to the beach and therefore love to work with customers who make products for the ocean. Splash About, LSea Swimwear, Bambino Mio... We have licensed to numerous swimwear companies and love seeing our designs used for beachwear and sun protecting kids items. Batoko, Little Mermaids, Quinn & Belle, are a few companies we collab with. But we have a lot’s of sea themed prints still available. Maybe something for your business?

The sea has been a great influence for me ever since I moved to this city 10 years ago. The city is packed and busy and the beach offers a great ease on crazy days. I even created a -beach- series, soft abstract prints influences by the sea and the life around the beach, parasols, waves, seagulls. The collection is named ‘Miami.’ A little more catchy that naming the prints after this small Dutch city The Hague. These prints are great for woman’s fashion and accessories.

Two years ago we also created our ‘Ocean Life’ series. A fun range of prints for kids. With sea turtles, fish, sea horses and shells. Dedicated to the colorful imagination of your little one. We are still in love with our octopus print. Which one do you like most?

Freshtastic Little Smilemakers Fabric: Winter weather // November selection

Every month we upload new work to our Spoonflower shop and over the past 5 years our portfolio has grown from zero to over 3000 designs to choose from. Behind the scenes we can search within our portfolio but we noticed customers have a hard time finding what they want sometimes. With our monthly Freshtastic Fabric post we feature new fabric that was added to our shop. We include some direct links to these new designs and color versions. Hopefully we can filter on trend designs and make the process of selecting prints a little easier.

For our November post we selected some Winter Weather themes we wanted to give a little extra attention. We have made some fun abstract designs for our Inky Texture collection, and some more whimsical prints for fun winter home decoration or cute little kids fashion items.

Clouds
Sky themed designs have been trending for over three years now. We have made som fun monochrome versions, some abstracts and now we added some winter color schemes of this Inky Texture Cloud fabric to our shop. We created the Inky texture series a year ago, we made some exclusive designs for Hemmers/Itex. But these clouds did not make the cut. Hope you like these new blue, nude and mint colors.

Mittens
I personally love knitted clothes. I would probably not survive Dutch winter without those. My feet are stuck in woolen winter slippers as we speak. I like how I can make my winter mummy outfit a little more joyful by just adding some fun mittens or a colorful hat or scarf. We added these illustrated designs to our shop so you can turn them into something cosy. Check out these icy, wood, lilac and blue colors in our shop.

Raindrops
With the color season comes rain. Those rainy days make me all melancholic, and as usual I turn something I really don't like into something pretty: an abstract memphis inspired raindrop print. That is how I deal with these things. Just create something. These designs are ready for you to create something cute too. We already had some colorful summer schemes up in the shop, now you can also find some neutrals and more natural colors: wood, blue and lilac.

Snowmen
This print has been trending in our shop already. This snowmen design was part of our exclusive design series last year but it wasn't licensed up until now so we decided to add this design to our Spoonflower fabric shop. New Little Smilemakers winter fabric collection at Spoonflower // geometric animals and abstracts

For two years we have been selling fabric via Spoonflower. It started out as a little shop for creative house wives and diy peeps but after two year's it has turned into an impressive online webshop with over 600 surface pattern designs, 700 followers and almost 13.000 likes. We are so thankful for all the great comments, shares and fantastic finished product images you all sent us.

In 2015 we will keep adding new designs to the shop. Right now we are working on some new kids fabric, some Valentine's day themes and of course an entire new batch of geometric textile designs. Retro derby roller skates pattern // Fabric & Licensing

Retro time! At this moment I am making a set of old vintage icon patterns. I just finished an old radio pattern set and this roller skates pattern. What retro icons can you come up with? I loved those roller skates and had an old set just like these big ones when I grew up! I spend hours and hours skating around the neighborhood. Good old derby times! Het nieuwe stationary seizoen is begonnen! De eerste agenda's voor het volgende schooljaar worden nu alweer in elkaar gezet. Het beloofd weer een lekker creatief seizoen te worden. Zoals bijvoorbeeld met de Girlscene agenda. Deze transformeert dit jaar een heus stijlboek! Bij deze een kleine impressie!

Almost done! We have been making so many school products for next year. It was awesome to make so much new stuff. This year i had the opportunity to illustrate all stationary myself. All nine stationary lines are completely original designalicious. All stationary is now in production! All back to school products will be in store next june.
